I have a bit of experience editing videos, but on no platform as overcomplicated as pp. I've never animated before, and after giving it a try in the lab I can't believe and am amazed by the sheer volume of work required by serious animated content. I have a newfound respect for animators, and can honestly support moderated usage of AI to help in animation (not that I plan to or know how to) after hearing a while ago how it could help cut down some of the
repetitive work that goes into animation. Brainstorming for this project was pretty difficult without truly understanding what I'm capable of with this new, high powered software. Off the back of my most recent sculpture project where I "distilled" instagram, I had ideas of the distortion created in our daily digital environments and the absurdity of doomscrolling and information bombardment. I had unused video of my eyes just looking at instagram, which ended up being kind of eery and pretty intense without sound, so I want this project to incorporate it but with a contrasting layer of complete chaos, absurdity, and some humor. I plan to create slop inspired, barely intelligible, high speed doomscroll. I think the idea has a lot of potential for interest, humor, and tapping into a genuinely rich conversation about the digital information environment, but I'm finding it hard to balance those elements with such limited skill and time, so I think I'll lean the most into just breaking reality and see what happens. Above all else I have to try to have fun. Honestly after day one of trying to animate I wish I'd tamed my idea a bit more and steered completely toward stupid humor, cause lord knows if anyone can make random, reality breaking bullshit it's me - but I'm also interested to see what I can do with a project as experimental and honestly also kind of serious as this one. Hopefully it pans out.
